FAQ

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Below we will try to answer some of the questions that most patients ask when they undergo surgery, if you have any questions, you can contact us at the following link Contact us at

1. HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?

The average recovery time for surgery is 14 days. The final result is not seen here, but if everything goes well in the process, it is possible to travel or return to a job that does not require physical effort.

2. CAN I CHOOSE BETWEEN HAVING LIPO ONLY OR ABDOMINOPLASTY?

It should not really be the patient’s decision. It is the surgeon who has the knowledge and experience to analyze the excess skin, the quality of the skin and the presence of stretch marks. If lipo is done where you need a lipectomy, you may end up with a lousy result, with irregularities on the surface of the skin, many wrinkles and sagging skin.

3. DOES LASER LIPO AVOID THE USE OF CANNULA?

No, the laser is inserted into the tip of a cannula, generates heat and then requires the same fat removal procedure involved in traditional lipo.

4. HOW MANY LIPOS CAN I HAVE?

Every time a liposuction is performed, a reaction is produced in the internal tissue, which is something like a scar and it will always be more difficult for the cannula to pass through the fibrous tissue that replaces the fatty tissue.
The ideal is, depending on the case, to have one or two lipos performed by a real expert and to adopt a healthy diet and exercise.

5. DOES PLASTIC SURGERY GUARANTEE ME A TOTALLY FLAT ABDOMEN?

Depending on the case, a flat or not so flat abdomen can be achieved with a well indicated and well performed plastic surgery.

The factors that project the abdomen and form “belly” are:

1. Accumulation of intra-abdominal fat. This can only be diminished with a healthy and balanced diet.
2. Flaccidity of the abdominal muscles. It requires exercise to tone them.
3. Separation of the abdominal muscles. This is improved with a proper abdominoplasty technique.
4. Accumulation of fat between the muscles and skin. This is the part that improves with lipo.
5. Distension of the viscera, by certain foods or poor digestion can project the stomach even in thin patients.

6. DO I GAIN TWICE AS MUCH WEIGHT AFTER LIPO?

Lipo does not alter the metabolism for better or worse. Excess fat is removed and the patient must have an adequate diet, so that only if he/she eats twice as much will he/she gain twice as much weight.

7. IS LOCAL ANESTHESIA BETTER FOR LIPOSUCTION?

Lipo is a surgery with well known risks, if we add to this high volumes of local anesthetic to aspirate large areas, the toxicity and risk will increase.

8. IS THE ANESTHESIOLOGIST NECESSARY?

Definitely yes. If you are offered a surgery without an anesthesiologist, they are telling you that there will not be someone specialized in taking care of your life and possible adverse reactions during the surgery. Only in minimal procedures can their presence be dispensed with.

9. DO THE SCARS FADE?

No. A scar will always be a scar. Over time it changes from a red color and coarse texture to what should be a mature scar similar in color to normal skin and smooth to the touch.

10. WHAT DOES GOOD HEALING DEPEND ON?

Mainly nutritional factors, genetics, skin type, scar location, general care and finally a good surgical technique.

11. HOW LONG DO BREAST IMPLANTS LAST?

There is no exact answer supported by serious studies. An annual ultrasound or mammography (after 40 years of age) and a visit to a specialist to evaluate the state of the implants is recommended.

Implants with international quality certifications (FDA, ANVISA, CE.ETC.) offer lifetime warranties for replacement in case of rupture, which does not mean that they are for life.

12. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO HAVE FACIAL SURGERY?

There is no exact age. What is advised today is not to wait until you have all the signs of facial aging for the changes to be so drastic. Depending on your skin type, race and age, the surgeon may recommend, after age 45, whether you need a full facelift, a partial facelift or a good combination of other non-surgical procedures with your surgery.

13. IS NOSE SURGERY PAINFUL?

Normally it is not a painful surgery at all, the main complaint of the patient is the feeling of discomfort due to nasal congestion that prevents normal breathing for about two weeks, like when you have the flu. This improves with time.

14. HOW TO CHOOSE A PLASTIC SURGEON IN COLOMBIA?

The term plastic surgeon already includes training in the reconstructive and aesthetic part. You must be a physician and surgeon, which in Colombia means general practitioner and then perform a specialization of 4 years. In Colombia there is an association that verifies the titles of those who want to enter and requires permanent updates. It is the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery.( www.cirugiaplastica.org.co).

15. CAN THE SO-CALLED BIO-POLYMERS BE REMOVED FROM THE BODY?

Definitely NO. They are a material injected by unscrupulous people that invade many anatomical structures in depth, so that to remove them completely it would be necessary to completely amputate the muscles, skin, fatty tissue and any area where they have been displaced.

16. WHERE IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED?

The surgery must be performed in a clinic authorized by the control agencies, with all the necessary equipment so that in the event of a complication, the necessary tools and processes are in place to react correctly and stabilize the patient.

17. DOES BOTOX DEFORM THE FACE?

No, there is confusion when it is thought that botulinum toxin (Botox brand for example) is a filler for wrinkles. It works by preventing the muscle from contracting, dragging the skin and forming the wrinkle.

When we see deformities in some patients it is most likely because they have had non-absorbable fillers placed with bad technique or in exaggerated amounts.

Botulinum toxin is not a filler, so it will not produce this type of bulging.

18. WHY DO PATIENTS DIE IN PLASTIC SURGERIES?

All surgery has risks due to multiple factors, such as anesthesia, drug interactions, blood and electrolyte loss that temporarily alter the circulation in the operated areas.

Not giving complete information to the anesthesiologist increases the risks.

Making a careful selection of the patient, requesting preoperative examinations and operating only in authorized clinics with trained personnel and adequate equipment reduces the risks, but never to zero.

Following the surgeon’s instructions in the postoperative period avoids complications.
